April 3, 2020

Hello Parents and Students,

With the current pandemic and the cancellation of classes, an average of five hours per week of at home learning opportunities, as directed by Alberta Education (https://www.alberta.ca/student-learning-during-covid-19.aspx) will now be accessible using Google Classroom.

Please refer to the emails from April 2 and April 3 for all the details and log in information that you will need.

The blog will not be updated after today, but please continue to use any of the songs or resources that are already posted.

See you in the virtual Google Classroom!

Bonjour mes amis,

We would like to send out our thoughts to say that we are thinking about you. Our classroom has been very lonely without our students this week. We were so looking forward to the plans we had for the spring, and all the leaps in learning that were to come. It has made us very sad that we didn’t even get to say goodbye.

During this time of uncertainty, we only want the best for our students.
Families, please visit the CBE’s Learning at Home page at:
https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/default.aspx for ideas on what to do with students until the CBE provides more information. Feel free to continue to use the resources on our blog and to practice anything that has already been posted.

Yearbook creation is still in process and these will be provided to families at the end of the year or when it is possible.

Sound Kreations Dance Videos were not taken as intended before the cancellation of classes, but M. Trevor is going through videos does have, and will continue to try to make them available.
He will send a message when he knows more. For now, check out M. Trevor’s blog (linked on our blog resources page) for practice videos that he posted last week.

We will let you know when other items can be picked up at a later date, when we know more about the remainder of the year.

We hope you will enjoy some quality time as families during spring break. We will check in with you again once more information becomes available to us all.

This is a school year that none of us will ever forget. We miss you and are thinking of our little learners.

Stay strong and healthy.

Hope to see you all soon!

Mme Michelle and Mme W. :)

Today the AM class enjoyed dance class with M. Ajay.  We then had a nutrition lesson from Food Impact and made our healthy snack of yogurt parfaits.  Merci to our parent volunteers who helped make sure everything (and everyone) was clean and ready!  After center time, students journaled, we read some funny food stories, and finished with a sharing circle.  Students went home with a sample of WowButter and the recipe for their parfait.

With Spring Break approaching, please remember that as of Mar. 12, anyone currently outside of Canada has been asked to self-isolate upon return for 14 days. Please review the current recommendations from AHS available on their website.  Best wishes for a safe and healthy weekend.

Today in dance we started working on our staging for our performance.  Students are asked to wear bright colours for Monday.  Please note, there is a change to the performance plans and there will no longer be a Monday night showcase. Stay tuned for more information from the school.

We had  math talks today. Using shapes, we tried to figure out what was different in a group.  Students discussed in pairs what they thought was different and then shared their answers with the large group.  This kind of thinking really stretched our brains to help them grow!  Can you figure out what is different in the pictures?  Hint: there's more than one answer!

Please remind your child that toys, stuffies, and special objects should be left at home or in backpacks.  We are noticing an increase in these items arriving at school lately.   Thank you for your help.

What a great day!  We loved hearing all the different stories about where the names in our class came from!   We are so unique!  We read and discussed two different stories about names and journaled about our special names.  Both classes also went to the library.   Please make sure to check out Mme Edgett's recent blog post about Kindergarten (her link is under our resources page)!

Today we met with Nurse Jen to discuss nutritious choices.  She and a colleague put on a puppet show for the students and then answered questions.  Ask your child what is the number 1 drink they should most often be choosing.  All students also went home with the Food Guide so that they could share what they learned with you!

The AM class also enjoyed watching THE BREMEN TOWN MUSICIANS by Alberta Opera.  The PM class enjoyed PE with M. Trevor.

Both classes reviewed our new letter sounds that were introduced yesterday : W, X.

We're looking forward to celebrating our names tomorrow and will also be heading to the library.  Thank you for returning any overdue books.

Our mot du jour today was pizza and we learned a new song about a pizza that ends up ruined on the floor!  Oh la la!  C'est triste!

The AM class listened to the story of the three mice and made pictures out of shapes (the PM class did this on Friday already).  Both classes had a review about patterns and we discussed how the shape  AND colour AND size has to be the same - this is complex thinking!  During center time students worked with a teacher on pattens using shapes and practiced their shape and colour vocabulary.   The PM class also continued working on their dance routine with M. Ajay.

Reminder that our name presentations are on Wednesday as well as library.  Scholastic orders for this month are due today (we'll submit them tomorrow so you also still have tonight to order).
