Today we focused on the number 7 (sept).  We represented 7 in different ways and cut out 7 pictures of books that we liked.  We also learned the sound and action for 'j', and tried to find mistakes in patterns.
We finished our day with a sharing circle about school.  Students are very excited to find out what our new dramatic play center will be next week... stayed tuned!  Reminder that report cards are available through your PowerSchool account after 3:15pm today, and that there is no school for students tomorrow.

The students continued to enjoy our gymnastics unit with M. Trevor today.  We spent some time looking at similarities and differences between the different graphs that we completed yesterday.  We read a couple of stories about dogs and wrote in our journals "Je vois un chien et un lapin."  Students are working very hard at reducing the size of their printing, and remembering our special rules (capital letter/majuscule, spaces/espaces and period/point at the end).  The PM class finished the day with a visit from Mme Alanna to start reading and discussing about Body in the Group.

February calendar and homework information will be coming out tomorrow, as well as a list of first names for Valentine cards.

On February 12, students are welcome to bring Valentine Cards to school if they choose.  If your child does choose to participate, please have them bring one for each student in the class.  Please do not send any candy, food or toys with the Valentines to school . Any food or candy that arrives at the school will not be sent home with other children.  Thank you for your understanding.  Valentines that have games/activities attached as part of their design will be permitted.

A couple of reminders:

On Thursday, Feb. 6, there is our literacy night for parents at 6:30pm presented by one of our gr. 1 teachers.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how to best support your child as they progress along their literacy journey.

Today students enjoyed music with Mme Edgett.  In class, we also introduced a funny new song called "Les poissons" (you'll find it under 'songs').   In math, we started learning about graphs.  Students used French language to share their favourite animal and add to the graph.  We then discussed which animal had the most, how we knew, which animals had the same amount, and more.

The AM class also practiced printing lower-case letters with their gr. 3 buddies.

February skating forms went home today.  Please fill out and send back as soon as possible. Ski and snowboard helmets that were accepted for January skating are acceptable for February as well.  Reminder that yearbook sales will be ending soon and that field trip forms to the Science Centre can come back as soon as you've filled them out.  Merci beaucoup!

Today the students enjoyed gymnastics with more equipment.  Ask your child if they can remember some of the 9 rules that M. Trevor taught them about today.

Our mot du jour today was "chat", so we journaled "Je vois un chat."  The students also drew les chats based on reference pictures today.  The PM group had the added benefit of having their buddies support their work.  We also started talking with the students about the quality of their work based on a 1-4 scale (with 4 being mastery).   Students will eventually be self-assessing their own work in this way.

We also learned the sound for "I".  Ask your child to share it with you!

We were very excited to have Petland join us this morning. Students got the opportunity to pet a variety of animals. We also learned some interesting facts about our guests. Ask your child which animal was their favourite. We also journaled about the visit: "Je vois Petland. J'aime les animaux."

Reminder - please return Telus Spark Science Center permission forms if you have not already done so.

Have a great weekend! Enjoy the fantastic weather :)
