Today's journaling lesson was about a turtle. It is always nice to follow along and learn how to draw a new animal. We are getting better following step by step instructions by looking and listening to each step carefully.

We added a new literacy center to our collections of centers today. Students are able choose an animal sentence, copy the words, make drawings, and create little booklets to read to the class.

Reminder - We will be skating Tuesday January 21st, fingers crossed for some good weather! The consent forms for this event will be going home next week. If your child does not own a pair of skates or helmet please take the time to find or borrow a pair. The classes are very excited about this opportunity!

FYI - From our Physical Education Teacher M. Trevor. Kindergarten participates in gym class every day 2, 4, and 6.

This week we have begun our gymnastics unit. The unit will last until February 6 and will take place during your child’s regularly scheduled physical education time.
Throughout the unit we will move through a progression of skills and equipment.
Mats: Basic skill acquisitions such as landing, jumping, balancing, and a variety of ways to move.
Low-level equipment: Continue developing previous skills through addition of equipment as well as learning how to use equipment safely.
Low level + Canadian Climber: The culmination of our unit as we continue developing basic skills and display what we have learned through a short routine.
When participating in gymnastics we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask that students come prepared to participate wearing appropriate gymnastics attire, which includes:
  • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best).
  • Tight fitting clothing is preferable as loose fitting or baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing.
  • All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (please leave at home). e.g. watches, rings, necklaces, dangling or hoop earrings etc…
  • Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. If your child has long hair please send them with hair elastics or scrunchies.
  • Students will be participating barefoot. Students with foot injuries or other health issues (planter’s warts) will be allowed to wear shoes. Please check your child’s feet for any concerns.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Please also be sure to check my physical education blog, which is updated weekly with what we have been doing in class. https://mtrevorphysed.blogspot.com/
